In this chapter, we will explain the problems in modern Electric Lights, about the different types, about the side effects of using them, and how to use correctly
Electric lights – In Short
First of all – Recommendation to minimize your exposure to EMR from Electric Lights 1. Prefer lamps that are as close as possible to the ceiling, and not hanging from it, or floor/desk standing lamps. 2. If possible, ground the metal parts of the lamps. 3. Prefer good quality LED light bulbs, with 2700K and lower light temperature (yellow light) 4. If you choose to use LED light bulbs, test them before you use them. Test the ELF magnetic field, electric field and Dirty Electricity emitted from them. Test several brands and choose the best one according to the test results. 5. During the tests find safety distance from the light bulbs and lamps 6. Prefer 2700K light bulbs (warm yellow light). 7. Prefer not to use reading lamps or standing light lamps that emit high levels of electric field (or keep 100cm safety distance). 8. I can’t recommend the use of CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light) or incondense lamps (see below). |
Which Lamps are better as far as EMF is concerned?
ELF ELECTRIC field from Light lamps can reach people who are using them. The field is created over the wires and metal parts of the lamp. The exposure is especially strong in the case of floor lamps, desk lamps, and lamps that are hanging down from the ceiling. Electromagnetic hyper-sensitive people might feel bad because of the ELF electric field emitted by the lamps.
The way to reduce the exposure in this case you can:
A. Keep a safe distance from the lamps or use lamps that are installed right next to the ceiling.
B. Ground the metal parts of the lamp, if possible.

Which type of bulbs to use and not use?
Incandescent – I don’t not recommend
Incandescent light bulbs emit almost no ELF magnetic field. but most of them do emit ELF Electric fields. They don’t emit UV radiation but they emit a lot of heat and they consume a lot of electricity. The heat makes it more necessary to have the air conditioner on, which adds more electric current, and there for more ELF magnetic field to the electricity network and cabinet. Recently, in many countries, the use of incandescent light bulbs has been reduced due to new “green” laws that prohibit the sale of these light bulbs (because of electricity consumption).
So because of the higher current issues, I don’t recommend using them.
LED – I do recommend using good quality 2700K LED light bulbs
LED light bulbs used to be very expensive and for that reason, they were not widely used. Recently LED Light bulbs have become cheaper and are more affordable. Most LED light bulbs usually don’t create a lot of ELF fields or Dirty Electricity noise(but some do). The better the quality of the LED bulbs the lower the ELF and DE they create. So I recommend testing the fields, DE, and quality of one LED light, with your EMF meter before buying a lot.
The recommended light temperature is lower than 2700K ( warm yellow light). These will have less blue light.
Some LED Lights might have some Flickering issues, especially when operated with dimmers. People who suffer from flickers may react to these LED lights.
So I recommend good quality, 2700K Led light bulbs.
CFL – the worst
CFL light bulbs are now (2015) very popular. They are marked as “Green” light bulbs, but are they really green?
Most CFL light bulbs emit ELF radiation(both magnetic and Electric ELF), UV radiation, create dirty electricity, and contain mercury that can be scattered in case of a broken bulb. When the CFL light bulb ends its’ life cycle you must make sure it is properly disposed of as a dangerous waste but in most countries, it is not done and they end up in the dumpster.
Comparison
The following picture shows that when measuring the ELF magnetic, electric, and even EMI from the bulbs, it is clear that incandescent bulbs are worse than good LED bulbs.
Recommendation
This is why today I recommend using LED light bulbs and not using CFLs or incandescent light bulbs.
When you buy LED light bulbs, buy one first and test them for electric and magnetic field emissions and for dirty electricity. In addition, I recommend using the worm-yellow light(less than 2700K) and not the cool-white light (6000K) which emits more blue light.
Prefer to install the light as close as possible to the ceiling and as far as possible from people.

Always keep a safe distance from the LED light bulbs (according to ELF electric and magnetic field measurements).

The electric field from lamps in current and incorrect connection to the power socket
A Lamp is usually a light bulb installed on a pole, with a switch, cable, and a power plug. The power plug usually has 2 pins, Phase(Live) and Neutral(0). If the power plug has 2 pins, it can be connected to the power socket in 2 ways, Phase to Phase and Neutral to Neutral, or switched (Phase pin to Neutral socket, Neutral Pin to Phase socket).
If connected the right way (Phase to Phase and Neutral to Neutral) the power will go to the switch and stop there. When the power is OFF you will be able to measure the electric field only up to the switch. When the power is ON you will be able to measure the electric field from the power cord, all along with the lamp (from the switch to the bulb).
If connected the wrong way ( Phase pin to Neutral socket, Neutral Pin to Phase socket ) the electric power will go all the way to the light bulb, even when the switch is OFF. Resulting in high electric fields from the lamp even when it is turned OFF.
Therefore, keep safety distances from lamps, and make sure you connect them to the power socket, the right way.
